Celebrating a Healthy Thanksgiving with Healthy Habits
While this sentiment is an excellent concept to live by, Thanksgiving is a day to focus on gratitude for everything we have, genuinely. Taking time out on Thanksgiving to appreciate even the little things is a beautiful opportunity to refocus our priorities and shift our mindset. While Thanksgiving is known for gathering around with your loved ones eating delicious food, spending time together, and being grateful for all the little things, it’s also known for Black Friday deals.
Healthy Habits for You
We offer some ideas on making this holiday a healthy Thanksgiving for you. With that said, if you want to eat well without feeling poorly, you should follow nutritional guidelines and ensure your protein is good.
For us to have a healthy Thanksgiving celebration, the food should be healthy first. To achieve the balance required to maintain a healthy lifestyle incorporating vitamins and supplements into our meal plan for the day is a step in the right direction. We need to also look at healthy food options for not only family members, but also pets. Fatty foods are hard for animals to digest, and many foods that are healthy for people are poisonous to pets – including onions, raisins, and grapes. If you want to share Thanksgiving treats with your pet, make or buy a treat that is made just for them.
Healthy activities, like exercise and supplements to maintain high energy, is also an excellent way to start the day and set the tone for the celebration.
Finally, one of the best activities to participate in for Thanksgiving, if you are able, is charity work! Here are a few ideas of how you can give back and give others something to be thankful for. Take your cookie exchange to the next level! Work together with friends and family to make a few batches of cookies and protein bars each and then donate them to local food banks or shelters for others to enjoy.
Write a note or card to people who will pick up items from the food banks or people in shelters. Give them some encouragement, let them know they are loved and cared about, and hopefully, put a smile on their faces.
Because of COVID-19, some food banks, soup kitchens, or shelters may have additional precautions in place, so reach out to them and learn the requirements ahead of time. But reach out to them and see what you can do, even if you can’t work a shift. Most local organizations have come up with new ideas for how people can give back and, because of the COVID restrictions, they may need more help now than ever!
